Park School Nursery Caters For The Community…

Park School Nursery children cooked-up a delicious batch of soup over the Harvest Festival season, which was to be served to Bournemouth’s homeless community and those in need of a warm nutritious meal, especially as the colder weather sets in.

Nursery Manager, Rebecca Mellowes said: “The children were excited to be spending the day making soup and each generously bought in a selection of wholesome food items for use. After spending some time learning about each of the vegetables and choosing their favourite, they moved on to the task of cutting and chopping. Under careful guidance, the children were able to prepare some of the vegetables for the large saucepan ready to cook the soup.

“Martin, the school chef, was on hand to ensure the soup was well balanced with lots of different ingredients. The children were able to help stir the soup and once it was cooked, they helped use the blender for the final mix. We feel it is important, even at such a young age, to get children involved in activities that teach them the importance of helping others.”

The soup was made for the Boscombe Salvation Army’s soup kitchen. It was freshly delivered to them on Friday afternoon to be given to the homeless people of Bournemouth on their regular Friday evening soup run.

What a great learning activity to share as we teach the children to have gratitude for all that they have and to give back to the local community.
